CoolPlay gives children in low- and no- fee schools in the Western Cape the opportunity to level out an uneven playing field.

The CoolPlay Way weaves valuable life skills into rugby, netball and soccer coaching sessions at 20 partner schools in the Western Cape. Champions (coaches) conduct sessions with their allocated squads twice a week for 40 weeks of the year.

The CoolPlay curriculum teaches:

  • Value-based goal setting
  • Personal responsibility & team values
  • Identifying skills and character strengths
  • Team cohesion and spirit
  • Good communication
  • Maintaining composure
  • Developing optimism
  • Good, responsible decision making
  • Gender Awareness

72/100 high school participants surveyed in 2022 indicated an increase in their ability to regulate their behaviour and recognise their emotions. They were able to take positive risks and persist through life’s challenges.

It costs R1500 a year for one learner to experience a safe place to play, learn and grow. In 2022 there were 1716 children engaging in the programme consistently, where they learned to be resilient, empathetic and confident to tackle life’s challenges.

CoolPlay is a registered Public Benefit Organisation (PBO No 930034864) which has also been approved for purposes of section 18A(1)(a) of the Act. So, not only are donations to CoolPlay free of Donation’s Taxes, they are also tax deductible in terms of and subject to the limitations prescribed in section 18A of the Income Tax Act.

The deductible portion of the donation is capped at 10% of the taxable income of the donor.
