About Dr Marike Ransome

Journey to “The Family Doctor” Practice – 84 Campground Road

Dr Marike Ransome grew up in Emmarentia, Johannesburg and matriculated from St Stithians Girls College in 1999. After taking a gap year in Stellenbosch, Dr Ransome started her medical studies at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg in 2001 and graduated with an MBBCh in 2006.

In 2007, she moved down to Cape Town with her fiance, Trevor Ransome, for her 2-year internship at Groote Schuur Hospital. Following her internship, she completed 1 year community service at Woodstock Day Hospital and Western Cape rehabilitation unit at Lentegeur.

After communitiy service Dr Ransome worked at various private GP practices around Cape Town. Through this work she gained valuable experience, developed her passion for family medicine and began a dream of starting her own medical practice. In July 2010 she turned her dream into a reality and started her own practice in Pinelands at Pine Care Centre. In April 2013 Dr Ransome moved to The Cedars, now known as the newly found Embrace Health Centre in Rondebosch.

Dr Ransome has been more than fortunate to have amazing Doctors on her team at The Family Doctor Practice. Dr Riya Rughubar, Dr Sarah Abrahams and Dr Megan Boake form the current longterm team. Together they share a passion in building a family GP practice with a difference, lead by a love for people and drive to enjoy ones daily work committments.

Upskill

Dr Marike Ransome assists top surgeons at Vincent Pallotti and Kingsbury Hospitals on a regular basis. These include orthopaedic, obstetric, neuro and general surgeons. She also frequently attends medical conferences and refresher courses hosted by the Universities and pharmaceutical companies in the Western Cape.

Outside of work

Dr Ransome loves spending quality time with her husband Trevor, her two boys Oliver and Adam, family, friends and her little dog Bella. She enjoys watching sport, playing sport and venturing into the outdoors on the odd hike in the mountains or on her mountain bike with her boys.  Her greatest current sporting passions are padel tennis and golf. She is currently a member at Rondebosch Golf Club in Cape Town and plays in their A league off a single figure handicap.
